I love small town life

There's a lot to be said for living and working in a small down. It's the sense of community that doesn't exist in a city. I live in a town of about 40 people, small enough to be tacked on to the next town over (population 1400) for "administrative purposes". It's the kind of place where everyone knows your name, everyone is friendly and there's no drama. The kind of place where, if you hear a car driving up the road you run to the window to see who it is. The kind of place that, when my wife opened her sewing shop, we didn't even bother to hang up a sign. Everyone knew it was there. The town where I run my garage isn't much bigger, but I love that. I know all my customers by name, they send me Christmas cards, stop in just to say hi, and last year when I was down for a couple days with pneumonia they called to ask if I was ok.

I can't imagine living any other way!

I grew up in a small mining town and yes it's very much like you say. But as the mines near-surface gold depleted and our corrupt goverment's actions started to trickle into the municipal system, the economy went belly up and the town had to change its income strategy to a half-baked hospitality / fancy truck-stop model, and i decided to move to the big city. But i'll always miss the good old days.
