My parents didn't know how to parent - didn't know how to allow their kids to just be kids. My siblings and I were not allowed to feel and express our feelings, so emotional development got arrested, leaving us unable to know how to function as fully actualized human beings.

@Ultimatewedgiegodess: It's not uncommon for parents to not have patience and understanding of their children's needs when they have so many emotional problems of their own.
