gunshots have more of a crack to them, where as fireworks have a softer bang.
another clue is the echo. fireworks explode high in the air, making the sound reach evenly over an area, where as a gunshot at street level will echo distinctly off of surfaces and in different directions.
gunshots are also generally very repetitive fired in quick secession, and fireworks have a distinct pause between bursts.
