It can penetrate your mask, but not always, so you just reduce the chances. Same is with washing hands and maintaining distance. There's no 馃挴% guarantee that a mask will save you from virus. Home made mask are not best but any mask is better than no mask. With all precautions collectively taken, they can protect you upto 98.5%
