It uses both 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels to communicate, so your overall band will be larger, and hence, data transfers faster.

@crimsonknight The WiFi covers the connection between you and your modem. The connection to the internet depends also on the trait between your modem to the rest of the Internet network, that usually isn't WiFi (fortunately because wireless networks are slower, especially in terms of latency).
