A bit like Tom Sawyer's. I spent a tremendous amount of time tramping the fields, building dams in streams, getting wet and muddy. Catching tadpoles and newts, the occasional slow worm, building shelters out of fallen branches. Riding improvised vehicles down hills with no brakes or steering.
And answering my mother's questions about what I did all day with "Nothing much.".

@ninalanyon mine was the same - I think we were very lucky!

@SpudMuffin Oh yes, absolutely. Lucky to grow up where and when we did with the parents and friends we had and with the schools we attended. At least that's how I remember my childhood, especially primary school (up to age eleven).
Of course it wasn't all summer holidays, but sometimes we had snow in the winter with snowball fights. And, also of course, school was not always fun but I attended a pretty progressive primary school (but it was not atypical for the town at the time) with lots of craft and art lessons, hands on science lessons, folk dancing, etc., in addition to boring subjects like French and sports that I didn't like.
And in the evenings we had Blue Peter on the television, and of course the very first Dr Who.

@ninalanyon our primary school was CofE, but apart from that you and I seem to have had almost identical childhoods.
Blue Peter is a very fond memory for me, as is Doctor Who, though I was just a little bit too young to remember the first Doctor, but I do remember Patrick Troughton very well. Happy Days!
