My mother who liked my long blonde hair was angry with my school after I was told to have it cut.
She made sure I had a severe short back and sides. This was at a time when most boys had long hair.

yeah I was a tiny girl with long blonde hair and complaining to dad about the knots in my hair and he took my hair in his hand
tight against my scalp and he forced a pair of scissors in between his hand and my head and he cut off all my hair
and I had to go to school with that awkward bob and here I am with my fear of/for hairdressers
I can go to the doctor and the dentist
and go for operations no problem
but a haircut
I go into panic mode like you would not believe

@butterflymind1 That is sad. Hairdressers need to understand that kids get teased for overly short or unusual hair. Cooperation with abusive parents is abuse no matter your profession.

I:m sure many people here have had experiences like mine. I am hoping that at least one or two of you will tell your own stories here.
By the way, I have worn short hair for most of my life; it's easier to manage. There were occasional months or years when I grew my hair out but those times never lasted.

A sad tale, well written. A terrible way for any child to be brought up. 🙁

@Frank52 I was a Communist Party youth training reject and Mom never let me forget it. Even though I did not know much about the CP when I was growing up, I did know I was some kind of an outcast, didn't know why.

@Frank52 Thank you. I certainly agree!

My mom used to hack my hair like a boy.
I’m a hairdresser . How hard is it to brush a little girls hair properly and gently with love?
I’m very sorry.

@SW-User Thank you. When I see a mother gently brushing her little girl's hair, I feel envious and sad.

@greenmountaingal I can imagine. I was never blessed with a daughter but always wanted one. I have a little boy that is my heart and I’d never treat him that way .

Yes it was horrible, being a bald kid in school 😲 you never heard the end of it until it grew out some

Your mother was a truly horrible person.
When I was seven, my mother decided she was sick of combing out the tangles in my long hair. She told me I had to get it cut really short, and took me to her hairdresser who cut it horribly short. The worst part of it was, my mother didn't know how to style her OWN hair, and she was not willing to take me to her hairdresser and pay to have my hair styled every week, as she did. No one ever taught me how to style the short do, so I spent five years with ugly hair.
I was forced to have short hair whether I wanted it or not, (and it was VERY unattractive with my face), until I rebelled at age 13...and then it took me four years to grow my hair to shoulder length.

@Eddiesolds Your dad and my mom could've formed a strong friendship.
