It would be a pity if it put you off folk-dancing, or any dancing I suppose, but I can understand because young boys do, or at least used to, regard dancing as somehow sissy.
Then they become old enough to discover night-clubs, where I gather that showing any genuine musical or dancing skill is Not Done.
I am very two-left-footed, but until I developed arthritis, I enjoyed the occasional barn-dance - though I've never quite understood why it's compulsory to call them "ceilidhs" even when very far from the Highlands and Islands!
