A Guru, in essence, is not a persona but a phenomenon—an experience of truth. When you experience that truth in a person, you call them a Guru: one who leads you from darkness to light, from ignorance to enlightenment.

Regarding East and West, I assume you mean differences in background and perspective. The West is largely shaped by religious frameworks, especially Semitic traditions, which influence its spiritual outlook. In contrast, the East emphasizes spirituality as a lived experience rather than a defined religion.

So, if you are seeking a spiritual path based on direct experience, a practical rule of thumb is to look toward Eastern traditions for guidance. If you’re comfortable with clear rules, customs, and a philosophical approach, a Western guide would be the right choice.
