I just said bad words a lot

Truly a classic self-harm incident.

I hammered the base of my thumb nail trying to fix the wayward brace on a foot stool.

I apologize. In future I will control my enthusiasm.

Ouch!

This calls to mind my Catholic education. I remember a Sister, during religion class in elementary school, actually using the example of hitting one's finger with a hammer as an example of when it's no big deal to use "bad words."

As she put it: if someone says "damn it!", who are they condemning to hell? The hammer? The finger?

So, Mama, feel free to be exuberantly enthusiastic!

Not to brag or anything, but it's in Latin.
@DrWatson The only time I HEARD my mother curse , although heaven knows she’d been provoked many, many times, was when she was sitting at her Singer sewing machine (she made many of our clothes, curtains, etc).

The sewing machine was old and had seen better days, and the feed (the moving plate like a tiny moving walkway) stopped feeding. This caused the needle to stop moving and just stitch many stitches in the same place.

She bent her head over the sewing machine, whispering but nonetheless menacing, and hissed at the machine. “Damn, damn, damn, damn…”

I just tiptoed past lest the curse accidentally hit me.
🫪@DrWatson You’re Illuminati?

Ohhhhhhhhhhh.....when I get those enthusiasms I become somehow creative!
@ElRengo You’re right. I was surprised by how much the internet has taught me.

Your optimism is inspiring. 😂 I hope it’s still better!
@JustNik So far, so good.

Wanna bet? 🤣
@bowman81 Where did I get the idea that squeezing the thumb between my knees and hobbling around knock-kneed and cursing would make it better?
@bijouxbroussard It’s better now. Another thing that amazes me is how it can hurt so bad and then just stop.
