My apartment complex bills us all $30 a month extra for a service called "Valet Waste'. We have to pay for it even if we do not use it. So I use it.

We all have a black bin with lid. Each evening Sun-Th, we can fill it with bagged trash (as long as the lid closes). Their employees then come around with large backpacks that can carry several bags, and collect ours then dump them in a pickup truck. Then the truck goes to the dumpster.

I like it since it saves me the trip. Also, I have a leg disability so carrying stuff on stairs, or anywhere, is hard. I use the handrails a lot but cannot if I have to carry something.

Another benefit is it cuts down on pests. I think that is the main reason they offer it. People would leave their trash near their door (both inside and outside) before they took it to the dumpster. I had several ant invasions. They found my trash and then my kitchen and the war was on.

But I have not had an ant invasion for years now.

I have never heard of an apartment complex charging for trash disposal.

Just use the neighbor's. That's what I do!

I pay low few hundred a year and think that's ridiculous. Geez.
