Turns out I saved up $5000 since buying my minivan in August
I was charged twice according to the company that I rent a parking spot downtown, one my usual just over $100 cost, and then $350 for renting the exact same spot. (They didn't double charge me, just what they were supposed to take out). My bank doesn't do anything online and only has two locations so I just haven't checked my funds since Aug.
I was thinking $2000, $3000 at most in savings. Just got back from over a mile hike (parking is terrible) to get my transactions printed out for the last month, and I got over $5000.
That's good considering my hotel just put one of the bellboys from full time to 2 days a week. Next week is precisely the time the ax in hours is expected to come down but I have been afraid to ask if it includes me (most likely does) because I want to lay low and not be noticed, which is almost certainly not going to work on the accountants.
If I somehow maintain full time through the winter I'd be very happy, because I would love to have a nicer cargo van with a ceiling fan on the roof for the summer. Something without rear windows so people can't look in. But I may say F it, minivan is working fine and just spend the sunmer in it, or rather in a hammock camoed outside of it. I already spent a couple of nights below freezing in my van, using shipping blankets to keep warm. I might get a few more before the temperature drops more. I felt fine, sleot outdoors for over a month in the winter up in Alaska in the Army.
My big concern today prior to checking was losing my job (two days a week for several months won't pay my parking and gas) and instantly having to get a job at some taco bell until I figured things out. I was worried my van would break down and not have the funds to fix it.
If I keep my job and get over $10,000 in my account I'll be pretty much worry free, won't have to worry about money issues anymore. I really don't spend much. I might buy a nice laptop this winter and a few sleeping bags for homeless people I pass by each day, if I still am full time mid december.
