If there is one thing I wish I could scream at my younger self, and to every single person I know, it is..
People who love you defend your name in a room you are not in.
People who LIKE you defend your name in a room you are not in.
People who RESPECT you defend your name in a room you are not in.
People who love, like, and/or respect you silence people talking about you, in a room you are not in.
It is not normal to gossip about people you care about. It is not normal to hate on people you care about. It is also not normal to be so hyper critical of people who you care about.
It is a weird, strange, time we leave in.
I miss kindness, Grace, and true friendships. I miss acceptance, loyalty, and knowing where you stand with people.
It is not even normal to gossip about people you DON’T like, constantly. Yes, we all get frustrated and vent. But why is the world so ugly and negative and how do I get my daughters to never think this is normal?
I hate social media (as I’m on it right now). I just hate how ugly it’s all gotten. Election year brings it out of people worse and I just hate being surrounded by it. Negativity breeds negativity. And it’s everywhere leaching the life out of people.
If I can urge anyone to do anything, it is to start speaking life into each other, give compliments, give Grace. For every negative thing you say, add 4 positive and watch how fast your perspective changes.
I went down a very negative path (mindset wise last year). And it took conscious effort to be different, to complain less, look for the good, be less critical, give love when I wanted to give criticism. When someone gossiped to try and find something good to say even when I didn’t want to. Or to give Grace when I didn’t know someone’s circumstances.
I just wish we’d relearn kindness. Happiness. It is way easier to be miserable everyday than to be happy. But choose happy.
