10 use to sneak down to the pond and skinny dip so thats how I learned
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@maturemuff60 Didn't have a pond to try in but had, and still have, the sea. Living at the seaside our family were regular beach-goers. I never managed to learn to swim though.

I took lessons when i was 40. I had lessons through school between the ages of 9 and 12 and hated it. I couldnt bare to get my face wet.
Learning as an adult, the 1st thing they did was teach us to get our face and hair wet and the realisation i wouldnt die if i got water in my ears was a revelation!! Lol.

Probably 7 or so. I think my parents taught me the very basics at the community pool before I went into swim lessons.

turns out at the moment of conception I was the strongest swimmer. I'm self taught
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@saragoodtimes how about if it caused the zygote to split, then there would have been 2 identical saragoodtimes!

I'm afraid I never have. I have always lived by the sea and would love to be able to swim, but can't!
Eventually I took lessons several years ago, but had to abandon them after several months, stymied by the sheer lack of natural bouyancy. (Many swimmers find that hard to comprehend, but I have met at least two other people who don't float either.)

I was swimming, dog paddling, at 5. Learned to swim for real around 8 or 9 at a summer camp. My instructor was Al Wardlow, an ex golden gloves boxing champion and a Detroit school teacher who worked summers at the camp as a Water Safety Instructor. I attended that camp as a camper until I was 16 and worked the next two summers there.
Al was one of my heroes growing up.

Around 8 years old .A friend from school helped me .
I had such a fear of water . Failed my beginners twice 😐.
To get over it I used to get the nerve up with my friend and ended up learning swim underwater first from diving in head first.
