To be fair, it isn’t a “Christian nation.” 🙄
Mathis1 · M
@AbbySvenz You seriously need to re read the entirety of American history.... assuming you actually read it at one time, and were not indoctrinated by some leftist college "professor."
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@Mathis1 actually it isn't. Deism is what is was founded on.
AbbySvenz · F
its a nation that happens to have Christians in it, an annoying subset of which think they “own” it 🙄 @Mathis1
Human1000 · M
@Mathis1 if only we had an official religion...
daisymay · 51-55, T
@Human1000 How terribly un-American of you
Mathis1 · M
@MasterLee You're dead wrong, and you need to re read your American history from multiple sources. The deism argument is pure baloney. The vast majority of our forebears were devout christians, and that is a historical fact.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@Mathis1 I gave done extensive research and found it holds up.
daisymay · 51-55, T
@Mathis1 Which is why Christianity was enshrined as the official religion of this theocratic republic. 🙄

Someone definitely needs a remedial history lesson, but it isn't Abby

By the way:
We aren't a Christian Nation
does not equal
Only a tiny minority of our forebears were devout Christians.
Maybe you should also brush up on your logic skills while you're reading up on how we're not a Christian Nation?
Mathis1 · M
@MasterLee Then you need to dig deeper. Among THOUSANDS of other references and evidences, the US Supreme Court in 1892, citing EIGHTY SEVEN legal and historical precedents, declared America to be a Christian Nation. SCOTUS Justice David Brewer wrote extensively on the ruling even after the fact, he stated:

"In what sense can [America] be called a Christian nation? Not in the sense that Christianity is the established religion or that the people are in any manner compelled to support it. On the contrary, the Constitution specifically provides that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” Neither is it Christian in the sense that all its citizens are either in fact or name Christians. On the contrary, all religions have free scope within our borders. Numbers of our people profess other religions, and many reject all. Nor is it Christian in the sense that a profession of Christianity is a condition of holding office or otherwise engaging in public service, or essential to recognition either politically or socially. In fact, the government as a legal organization is independent of all religions. Nevertheless, we constantly speak of this republic as a Christian nation – in fact, as the leading Christian nation of the world."

Contrary to what critics imply, a Christian nation is not one in which all citizens are Christians, or the laws require everyone to adhere to Christian theology, or all leaders are Christians, or any other such superficial measurement.

Our forebears were emphatically Christian, and the ethos that guided them was the Bible/ Ethical Theism, NOT Deism. This is what the historical record bears out.

@daisymay Dude, I will not debate some nut job who cannot decide what bathroom he should use.
Mathis1 · M
@AbbySvenz It is astonishing to me how many people like you blather on at the mouth with the slightest inkling of what on earth they are talking about.
AbbySvenz · F
Who’s the one blathering ..?@Mathis1
daisymay · 51-55, T
@Mathis1
I will not debate
Coward.
daisymay · 51-55, T
@Mathis1 Since you've conceded that you are, in fact, wrong about the state of the theocratic republic that is the USA, when can we expect you to apologize for being a lying, worthless piece of shit?
