Satyagraba?? Is that the same as satyababa??
SW-User
@Soossie its a h... Satyagrapha...

Truth force

Associated with Mahatma Ghandi and passive (non violent) resistance
@SW-User Uh!! I see... thanks beautiful...

Do you think that (non violent resistance) will work in this new World??
SW-User
@Soossie yes-I hope so because it is the only hope we have x
@SW-User Amen to that...
@SW-User @Soossie Is it ever okay to confront violence with violence? Or, is non-violent resistance sufficient? I struggle with this.
SW-User
@IAmJess Well... I once broke my step father's ribs.

😃

I'd say self defence is a natural and normal part of being human.

The problem (speaking speculatively here) is the human ability to reason out til a lot more is covered by the notion of 'defence'

Including historically defending land you've taken from someone else

And even the ability to rationalise proactive 'self defense' or first strike

As to when it is ok for a third party to intervene to stop violence - for example - the US entry into the Syrian civil war with air strikes to protect the Yazidi -who knows?

All I know is that there are always negative consequences as well as the positive ones.

Violence is never a 'clean' solution
@SW-User That's the problem. Violence, even for good reasons, is still very messy.

And as for self defense... Isn't "But he started it!" what the 10 year old says when standing over his beaten & bloodied classmate?

Idk.

Is it strange that I'm more okay with my country (the US) entering a conflict when it is to defend a third party than any other reason?
SW-User
@IAmJess I've always believed bullies have to be stopped. But that is a 'body' view. You can argue pretty much anything down. ☺
SW-User
@IAmJess And yes that is interesting (third party). Worthy of further exploration?
@SW-User Okay, so honestly I had no idea why we were now involved in *another* middle eastern country (Syria) until you just said that. I heard on the news that we were now there and I just got very upset about it and didn't look into it.

But, hearing you say we got into it to protect the Yazidi (no idea who they are, but that's not the point), made me feel a little better about it. I just hope that's the real reason we are there.

I'd like to see the nations of the world do a little more to protect people who can't protect themselves, instead of fighting wars over resources and land.
