Memorial Day

not just the unofficial first day of Summer but a Day to remember and pay respect to all those who gave their all so we may live in the land of the Free and Home of the Brave. My Grandpa was a WWll Vet and many men and boys alongside him never returned. He was wounded and received the purple heart. I thank God he survived or I wouldn't be here to share my thoughts on this special day

My father was in WWII. So was his brother, who was killed when a German sub torpedoed his ship. So I always think of both of them on Memorial Day.
@DrWatson saw a photo in my news feed of troops landing at Normandy. some were just kids with innocent faces about the same age as Dan is now
On this day I Honor and Respect all the Men and Women whom gave their all defending this great nation.

Additionally, in special memory I Honor & Respect the 30 souls that perished beside me on Firebase Mary Ann March 28. 1971. By the grace of God I survived that Sapper attack which also left 82 men wounded.

My dad with his squad somewhere in the mountains
of Italy 1944. He survived, but many of his friends didn't, His best friend survived,
but was never the same. Dad had nightmares off and on till he passed in 2004.
But other than that, he was a normal good hearted guy.

The real heros are the ones who never came home.
@MrBrownstone all who serve are heros to me. the sacrifices they make to keep us free and secure

I agree... As a vet myself i certainly don't recognise myself as a hero... I left way too many friends as heroes in the cold waters of the South Atlantic and others places we cant even name ... Bless each and everyone of them from all nations.. Creeds and Colours... We all just did our jobs and obeyed orders...

LEST WE FORGET

@MrBrownstone with the greatest of respect I disagree. Anyone that fought is forever a hero.
