Have you ever been put on a performance improvement plan at your job or past jobs? (PIP)

Well, I got put on one yesterday. Some people say it gives you another chance to improve your performance, some say its just the first step into firing you and that the writing is already on the wall. Whatever happens, i'm prepared for it. Got a lot of money saved up for a few months of hard times

It could very well be a way to make a paper trail so that they can fire you and you cannot receive any compensation.
Or maybe like REMsleep says it's a good chance to get better at what you are doing.
I would say don't get a case of the ass over it though.
Definitely do above and beyond work now.
I was told I had low productivity one time.
I have a real bad case of ADHD so I have to do everything as fast as humanly possible in order to keep it entertaining and exciting enough to retain my focus. So I thought it was a bunch of s***. Turned out that I had been chatting with the other guys more than I should because I knew I was fast. So that made me average in the big picture. They knew I could do better.
They were right. When I stuck to doing my job and stop socializing so much I became the go-to guy in every department.
I became supervisor. True story

@Dainbramadge when you say receive no compensation, what do you mean? I know there would be no severance if you get fired, but unemployment would be a possibility. I think ill be looking for a new job anyway. Its a 3 month PIP. So at least it would show that I've been there for at least a year on my resume

@MntoNc yes I meant unemployment.
I am a dirty b****. At least I was.
I would quit a job if it got two confrontational, which normally happened around me before I was medicated, then I would go to the unemployment office and say I was wrongly fired.
I would receive my 6 months unemployment pay because the burden of proof falls on the employer. They couldn't prove I quit.
I guess if you get fired and have been written up or reprimanded in some way enough times then unemployment doesn't have to pay you.

@Dainbramadge Wow inspirational. I am a perfectionist so I hate criticism but I try my best to take it in but I truly am very uncomfortable with criticism. Makes me feel attacked and I go overboard after that trying to prevent more criticism.

@REMsleep that's the same way it is with me.
It was funny because the shop that told me I had low productivity also really wanted to absorb me from another company they bought because I was hyper. They saw it as an asset apparently.
They didn't realize that the hyperness also caused me to over socialize. When I got the low productivity speech I got mad.
But they were right in the long run. My hyperactivity just needed a little direction.
