Why does my cat love vanilla ice-cream?

I doubt he's lactose intolerant (most cats are, but he'll gladly consume dairy products) but cats simply can't taste sweet stuff. But my cat loves vanilla ice cream (the other one doesn't like dairy)! Does your cat love vanilla ice-cream?

Mine loved it, too. It made me wonder how sure they are that cats CAN'T discern sweetness.

They don't have the taste buds.

Perhaps they can smell the difference ? Part of taste is scent.

Scientific American has a good article explaining it. They don't know why some cats like ice cream though.
