I dont know what all shapes a culture. In our culture mass media and celebrities and xorporations dedinitely have a huge power, and everything is largely shaped around getting people to spend money. And being boring is a sin. So maybe the threshold for stimulation has gone up, and everyones addicted to chasing some new cheap thrill. So yeah, in that regard what youre saying has some validity.
On one extreme is a zen monk who can stay aroused and engaged just from meditating alone in an empty room, on the other, teenyboppers who need the constant rush of their social-trance and its consumeristic orgies.
