All that "magic smoke" that poofs out of clock IC chips! Might as well call them 666 timers.

To be honest it's pretty hard to nuke 555 timers. They're super resilient. But from other IC chips, the smell of the magic smoke is quite distinct from one component to the next. Even among brands there's slight differences.
