As an honest, straightforward person,, I take pride in the fact that my word is my honour,, and if you didn't want an honest answer, then you shouldn't've asked the question..
So being sad about it is perfectly unnecessary...
In the instance of a sensitive topic, I might add a silver lining to my response, by saying something positive in light of the serious answer given...*
