Why do people feel the need to announce to everyone that they are leaving EP?
Just do it. No one is going to talk you off the ledge, this is not law & order.

To give people a chance to say goodbye would be one reason I'd do it if I was leaving. There are probably other reasons too. Including bad ones, which is what you picked up on.
