You should tell him. Its better he hears from you. For a temporary fix if you can't get the screen fixed right away, laptops that have an HDMI port can be connected to a tv with an HDMI port. You would then be able to use your tv as a screen. Some laptops also have a VGA cable you can use to connect to a tv. Once you have the cable connected, switch the tv to the correct input.

honestly he might find out eventually, and than he'll be even more mad because your even more so guilty for hiding it! Honesty is key, even if hes upset it wont last forever.

Well just go up to him very mature like and tell him you have to tell him something. Just tell him what you said and I am sure he will understand. He will respect you for your honesty.
