Do you believe that we have free will?

astyiam
The very fact that we question this proves we DO have free will. Otherwise there wont heroes and there wont be villains. We will all be automatons and everyone's reaction to a particular situation will be a carbon copy response, but we know from experience that it is not so.

It's a bit fallacious to say "the very fact that we question this proves we do have free will"; that doesn't prove much at all. And, I disagree, our brains differ vastly from person to person, so one person's reaction to a particular situation would most undoubtedly be quite different from another person's reaction, regardless of whether or not we possess free will.

If were autodriven we will not have the very basic ability ot question our abilities....thats what I wanted to say we will be oblivious to our state of existence.

I don't understand. Could you elaborate? Why would we not be able to question our abilities if we didn't have free will?

I believe we are creatures of habit. When I wake up and weigh myself I want to lose weight. My determination to lose weight remains strong until I feel a pang of hunger to eat a specific food and the determination I had mot to eat is overridden by the desire to eat. At the moment I place the food in my mouth I don't feel like I have free will at all.

No. We have experiences and socio economical factors that influence the way we believe we are reaching a decision by free will.

yes, and also in my ability to define what I mean by free will - which is a pretty important starting point...
