Does God punish us when we sin? If so, how do we know that he does?

He corrects the ones he loves. We make our own bed though. We punish ourselves more so really. We hate ourselves when we do something wrong even after we have asked for forgivness for it, sometimes we ourselves don't actually forgive ourselves for it.
