Why didn't EP management ever show competence in getting serious advertising revenue on this website?

Why didn't they hire somebody who was a real pro at getting the advertising flow the website needed? This site had a huge membership! I stopped seeing ads in 2014 as a Supporter. Before then, the kind of ads I would see were "Meet Russian Women", Adult Friend Finder, and ads that would show a pretty young woman with gigantic breasts and saying she is 2.3 miles away from me, LOL! Somebody else described the ads to me as "there are still busty ones, plus male enhancement ones, moneymaking schemes, and ones that feature bizarre and disturbing physical deformities, ostensibly clickbait articles leading to more advertisements." Atrocious! If Playboy and Penthouse have had ads for all these decades, why couldn't EP develop a strong advertising operation?

The MOST members that were ever accounted for is just under 300,000, vs FB which has 1.5 BILLION. And FB can be used as a business website.
Tell you what. YOU try to sell ad space on a site like EP, and you'll learn what site-traffic is, and why EP had to use bots to add traffic to the site so advertisers thought they were hitting peak-periods.
You'd starve to death.
Tell me more about the bots.

EP is not Facebook. But just cause you're not Novak Djokovic doesn't mean you're not a good tennis player.
heartbreakerlifetaker
And being a good tennis player doesn't mean you can make a living at it.
No, but maybe 100 or so men can make a living on it.
EP's site traffic would have been much, much more if they had not alienated members the last 4 years by dismantling piece by piece the once great website they had built.
I'd like to hear the story about EP using bots. Is that legal?
heartbreakerlifetaker
You've made the case. The quality of anything, goods or service, is not negotiable. And EP forgot this.
It's neither legal nor illegal, but it sure as hell ain't ethical. In EP's prime, around 2010-2014, 40% of the users were American, 30% European, and the rest "other". Some of the ads were legit, like the ones for Progressive Insurance. But it takes eyeballs to see the ads to pay for them, and traffic is used to determine the prime time. Like at 3am, a 10 minute local ad on TV is around $1000. But only 200 people will see it, right?
So to help keep the traffic up, EP uses the trolls...nerd guy, karate girl, wellington boots guy....you get it. Boom. Traffic goes up, ad-space costs go up.
The downfall? Ad blockers. They're free. How are they free? Well heck, places like EP pays adblock to NOT block certain ads.
And this is why socialism and communism cannot work. Marketing is way too profitable..
I'm happy to have come across somebody who is as knowledgeable about EP as you are, heartbreakerlifetaker. Please add me back.

I'm not really that knowledgeable about EP. I just have a lot or marketing experience. All I had to do is reverse-engineer what was going on. I mean, there is absolutely no logic behind the type of questions that are being asked here, like the bots ask. And the user names always had a name + a number. No friends, and always their first day.
All I did was put the pieces together.
How did you know about "around 2010-2014, 40% of the users were American, 30% European, and the rest "other" since that's not at all common knowledge? If you have some link where you found info like that, please share it with me.
In 2012 EP was claiming to have "over 10 million people a month sharing over 20 million experiences" (http://www.ted.com/tedx/events/4139).
I am very concerned about the impact of ad blockers on free websites. But I don't think that we are yet at the point of the doom that has been predicted.
Q&A has puzzled me. I have long noticed that if you go to the main Q&A page, 95% of the questions are inane. But if you ask an intelligent question yourself, you get good intelligent answers.
