What is the difference between being smart and being intelligent?

Intelligence infers a higher degree of intelligence when compared to smart. smart also can be applied to sarcasm or describe appearances.

This is probably a language thing but, to me, smart usually means well-dressed and having your shoes polished and stuff.

You can never be too intelligent, but it can be a mistake to be too smart.
