How can you love someone who dislikes you so much?

This is far more common than people realize. My best friends ex fought with him for so long about why he wouldn't try to make the relationship work, yet she KNEW the entire time that he hated her (with good reason.) She tried to make it work regardless. Insanity?

dislike can be at least sensed in personal confrontation, presence from most girls!
