Best slow cooked meal recipe when you don't have a slow cooker?

details please, including all your personal tips and tricks ;)
biofrances
Just get a slow cooker sauce and do either in a casserole in the oven better than a pot on the stove.
you can use any kind of meat or sausages as a poster has already suggested.
Be easier to just go and buy a slow cooker if cannot find new can always find at thrift shops etc.
The other two recipes mentioned would be too hard for the first time.

In a pot on the stove all you will be actually making is a stew same as with casserole. two different ways of doing the same thing.
In a slow cooker just need a quarter cup of water and let the meat cook in it's own juices. And the big plus is you can go out do your work and not have to watch it.
With stove top and oven it has to be watched. Well worth the investment.
Nice to see you around

Love if going to do this stove top your tied to the house with it. Same as oven. I am pushing the slow cooker because all you have to do is marinade your meat just put in a quarter a cup of stock or water hardly enough to cover the bottom of the cooker and walk away. ( just be careful if buy second hand for the first time stay with it )

Now if get the largest slow cooker you can get you can do what the other poster has already suggested. can put what is left over in containers and freeze. I keep doing this with all your meals you will find bills lower and more money in your pocket as will have times you will not have to buy food.
Also get rid of the takeaway meals and a lot healthier too,
You do realise you can make cakes whatever in these things.

Get a slow cooker and I can help you to do wonders with it. Hey once mastered that may decide to invest in a pressure cooker too.

haha Thank you! If I pre cook the beef though I can stay with it. heck I can pre wrap the burritos and oven heat them to warm up. ... But slow cooker does sound enticing. Just can't get to town in advance this time.

Or could take the easy way out and tell them to all bring a plate.

You know with a pressure cooker can do a whole chicken and veg everything in about twenty mins. I am doing steak and kidney pudding tomorrow the English ones. three quarters of an hour in pressure a cooker against over two hours on a stove top.
I use machinery for everything here.

But pressure cooker is a bigger investment and have to know what doing with them. But if looking at them do not go past the five in one. will tell you about those later in your interested

People do not know how to use them. Picked mine up in a thrift shop brand new for $50.00 au. It slow cooks , pressure cooks, bakes, cant remember the other things but does everything in the one appliance. Oh yes and a deep fryer too.

Rice tomato soup and cheddar cheese
1) Cook the rice half way with chicken broth
-Generally rice is cooked on a 1 to 2 ratio So every cup of rice is cooked with 2 cups water So to cook it half way cook it over to stove top in half with liquid amount
2) Then to finish cooking the rice for the remaining amount of liquid bring the tomato soup to a simpler Since the soup is thick add an extra 1/4c and finishing cooking the rice
3) When the rice is cooked enough add cheddar cheese and melt together
Tips) Sometimes I like to put a little extra salt and pepper and top or with spicy sausage A little parmigiana goes a long way You don't necessarily need to make it with nice either Pasta or grains go well too

Thank you! sounds delicious :) not sure how I'd slow cook that though?
MNI1982
Well it's more of a simmer cook on the stove top but has the same effect because you're absorbing the liquid and creating sort of a stew since you don't have a slow cooker
It really it very delicious and easy to make! Enjoy!

Sauce. We just get a big pot going with sausage, pork, beef, and meatballs, and let it simmer on the stove all day. Then, we fill tons of Tupperware containers with it and store it in the freezer.

Carbonade flamande or beef bourguignon are both really good and can be done in a casserole dish in the other.
DreamCoCreators · 36-40, M
Thank you :) bourguignon is meant to be quite hard to get right. .. It'd be my first time and we're hosting so unless there's a guaranteed success recipe you happen to be willing to share I guess I'll pass on that one.

But. .. What's a carbonade flamande?? I will also Google but more answers help!
EarthWalkerMan
It's fairly easy actually. It's just beef in red wine sauce. There'll be loads of recipes for it online. Carbonade flamande is similar but with Belgian brown beer and cider vinegar.

Hi cloudsoflife
you could make a haybox. Just saying.
Beans are great in a casserole btw.

hi cloudsoflife
here from wikipedia:
A hay box, straw box, fireless cooker, insulation cooker, wonder oven or retained-heat cooker is a cooker that utilizes the heat of the food being cooked to complete the cooking process. Food items to be cooked are heated to boiling point, and then insulated. Over a period of time, the food items cook by the heat captured in the insulated container. Generally, it takes three times the normal cooking time to cook food in a hay box.[citation needed]
