From a man to a monster, or a monster to a man. Which is more frightening? Or are they the same?

Man to monster. Metaphorically to me it sounds more like a monster that changes into man changes for the better good. Man has a heart, and I believe a monster doesn't but that depends on what you believe a monster is. People can be a monster inside but man on the outside. I can see someone who used to be kindhearted and compassionate just suddenly becomes consumed by hatred and darkness that they turn into a monster inside. To me that's more frightening and sad.
