In a multi-religious society which includes (atheism too ) . What is more important mutual respect ? or tolerance ?

This is very important , as the world which we live is a multi dimensional society . how should we learn to co exist ?

Please forgive me for not already knowing, but could you tell me the difference between mutual respect and tolerance? I thought they were basically the same thing.

In my opinion , for example I follow religion A and my friend religion B . If we both respect each others faith thats mutual respect. regarding tolerance , we dislike that religion A since we belong to religion B still we live together for the sake of living . I might be wrong , but I just felt that

Oh. I think tolerance is better then because some things about other religions I just can't respect, BUT I am polite enough to keep my mouth closed. We can't force people to not feel what they feel, but I do think the saying "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." stands true.
(I'll admit I get a little feisty when someone starts something with me about my beliefs first though. >.<)
