Just found out someone important in my life has lied to me, I'm hurt & a bit upset. What should I do?

I've been through this. You are certainly within your rights to challenge them and to let them know how you feel. If you feel like I did, this has caused you to rethink and reconsider other things they've told you in the past and caused you to question whether you've been lied to about other things. This person needs to understand that, and they need to understand that these lies have damaged how you feel about them. It's a tough spot to be in, but I think the best you can do is to combat the lies with honesty.

Give yourself some time away from them so you have time to cool down, then have a talk with them. You have a good reason to be upset and its important to talk about it and work it out but don't attempt to work things out before you have time to feel. Its important to feel how things affect you because you won't be able to work it out if you do it fresh and angry right after it happened.

Hi Messy74
Process the information I suppose. Was the lie malicious or a white lie or lie of omission?
Reject the person as a friend or talk it out with them. If you choose to talk with them you can always reject them after.
Life is rarely simple sadly.

Ask them about it in person. Never believe anything second hand.

I guess it depends on the magnitude of the lie
