After I received my B. A., I went back to the community college I had transferred from to UCLA. I went to the math professor who had helped me get my math requirement done so that I could transfer there as a junior English transfer.
I told her, "If it wasn't for you, Professor, I wouldn't have this." I handed her my English degree from UCLA, something I had dreamed about earning from the age of 13 but didn't achieve until I was 30.
She looked at it, then at me, and said as tears came to her eyes,
"I think that's the best thing anybody has ever said to me in my life ever."
