I think it should be illegal for companies to post job leads online for jobs that don't even exist. What do you think?

Once, I applied for a job in which I would be working in a bank vault, filing and pulling customers' files. I must have spent at least half an hour, maybe even an hour, filling out the online application. Then I got called in for an interview. So I got myself all dressed up and rehearsed my answers to all the questions I thought they were going to ask me. I was really excited about about this "job". I thought that the interview went very well, until, at the very end, the woman interviewing me said, "Well, if we have any job openings, we'll give you a call." What a big waste of my time. At the time, I was too shocked to even be angry. I didn't really know what to say. I hope I don't ever have to waste my time that way again. Has this happened to anyone else here?

This is literally the problem I'm having now. I go to a bunch of places with ads and signs saying they are hiring. I go in and ask for an application. After filling it out and handing it back in i sometimes get called for interviews and to fill out paperwork. Well then they just never call me back. I try calling them and nothing. Some places the employees were nice enough to inform me that the stores are required to always have help wanted signs up but aren't allowed to actually hire more people. How can you have ten companies hiring, with no jobs to actually fill? It's beyond frustrating.

Yeah, maddening.

i think so too, also , people shouldnt be bothering you about jobs if theyre not willing to hire you, ive been harrassed by companies that want me to pass out samples in supermarkets, interviewed me twice and never hired me, then contact me again, i told the last guy i only want to interview if theyre serious, dont need them wasting my time and money

I agree with you that happens many times but because of those fake people the genuine people are getting the trouble..I myself had recruited through the company which is 100% genuine..

Well, it's good to know that some recruiters are actually recruiting people for real jobs. I'm learning, partly by researching companies online and partly through trial and error, which companies are worth trying to work and and which ones aren't.

could have been a year old listing. could be they found someone they preferred more than you. doesn't mean the listing was fake.

So when she said, "If we get any job openings we will call you," she was just trying to spare my feelings by not telling me that I wasn't getting the job? That doesn't make sense. There have been real jobs that I have applied for and not gotten, but they would tell me that they had chosen someone else, or that they were going to continue their search for the right person. Or, sometimes they wouldn't tell me anything at all. But this was the only time that they actually told me that there weren't any actual openings.

I think it should be illegal for them to not tell you if you're hired or not.
