Why do you care about the current wars?

If you have friends/family in Ukraine/Russia, Israel/Palestine, lived, work there etc ... This question isn't for you as of course you care.

This question is more for people who have nothing to do with these places, 0 degrees of connection yet always posting, protesting etc ...

What makes you care this much despite it having zero affect on you, your friends and family? This is a genuine question as I'm curious, not looking for a debate or fight. Just curious.

Thanks, please try and be kind in the comments, looking more for the philosophy of caring about outside things, not the whole Israel/Palestine and Russia/Ukraine ideologies.

Because the older you get the more of this stuff you see.
And it's always the same protagonists preaching the same message as justification for murdering the innocent.
Because their holy book says so.

A wise old lady (heavily Catholic) once told me
Religion is the cause of all war
And throughout my 58 years on the planet it's proven to be true.

The difference here is because attack the innocent wasn't enough !
These people herded humans up who weren't a threat to anybody, and one way or another kidnapped them !

What kind of a human thinks doing that is acceptable ?
And then you get the response !
Which is pretty shocking by anybody's measure !

Mankind is lost when good men do nothing.
And that's where humanity is right now

@Picklebobble2 true enough..how to change that?
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Wiseacre THAT'S the question !
This is new territory. Worse than ever before.
In all these years parties are now willing to go to new extremes to achieve their short-term goals knowing there'll be repurcussions unlike anything seen before.

Because

Firstly, what in the heck is your profile picture bro. Why am I just seeing this

Secondly, gah dayum. Joint is so whack, please change it for my sake 😭

Thirdly, to be serious, I care because:

1. They objectively matter as humans. They have beautiful worth
2. I have feelings for every person. I still have a heart and believe in balance, effort, and justice
3. This mentality of nonchalance is actually the reason why so many problems exist. Be it laziness, time, not having immediate connection, pick your flavor of selfishness. Humans are interconnected and a whole society can come together to save another. Let alone the world
4. Silence and nonchalance encourages troublemakers. Only in western places have I seen people paving ways so hard for criminals and then siding against the victim. Be it school children all the way to how rich people rob and cheat. Some people simply DO NOT CARE and don't learn to respect others until they're forced to feel pain over it
5. I can make a difference. Perhaps if I cannot affect this immediate generarion, maybe I can affect the next and help a new set of people not grow up with a dad or mom who has no mercy in their heart because "it doesn't affect me"

@cerealguy I like your reasons, good to see humanity, and no, I won't change my pic it's sexy!
cerealguy · 26-30, M
@Starguy dangit 😂
Gotta always see that pic now

And thank you

@cerealguy now I don’t have to answer. You just did it for me. ❤️❤️

I care, but I don't see a solution. The world leaders are so corrupt and have so many followers, what can I do? I feel empathy, but I've lost hope in humanity.
Starguy · 26-30, M
@SW-User I've personally been feeling the same lately. No matter how much we show support and/or want something to stop nothing will ever change.
Once I realized nothing will change I kinda had an epiphany that I simply don't care anymore.
SW-User
@Starguy Fighting/standing up isn't an option. We don't fight corruption, we just murder the innocent. So yeah, nothing will change.
Handfull1 · 61-69, F
@Starguy as humans, we can’t give up. The world is constantly changing. It will be up to your generation to point to the direction.
Aside from caring about human life, I don't like that we're using taxes to fund Israel's genocide. And I want Russia to lose because I don't want imperialism to become normalized.
ElRengo · 70-79, M
"What makes you care this much despite it having zero affect on you, your friends and family?"

Because caring in only that cases is childish.
Or in other words, the kind of emotional, intellectual and shortminded style of social inmaturity that individualism promotes.
Strictmichael75 · 61-69, M
Because of the consequences that it entails
The negative impact on the world
The effects on the economy that hits everyone
And where next?
Think about the $100+ billion in US tax dollars given to Ukraine for a war they cannot possibly win (despite what the media parrots, Russia have more than 100 million more citizens than Ukraine). How much of that money ended up laundered and in the hands of oligarchs and US politicians?

Without the added funding, perhaps Ukraine & Russia negotiate peace sooner, fewer people die or end up injured. I'm not buying the narrative that the US is helping support Ukraine's democracy.

The '"connection'" is empathy and compassion.

Many folks have a hard enough time applying mental abstract concepts to concrete health care that affects them directly. Add in no direct connection and far too many cannot seem to relate in any measurable fashion.

The 📺 TV told them!!

Probably no-one wants to see all the suffering and death, especially if you have empathy. It's utterly atrocious.

But, perhaps some have little purpose in life, so they obsess about such things or just want to assert their opinions or virtue signal?
Wiseacre · F
I try not to care...fuck, sooo many problems in my city unaddressed.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
I feel for the innocent victims of this war.
SW-User
valid question
Wiseacre · F
@SW-User answer?
Renaci · 36-40
Because I have empathy,morality and a conscience.

"First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me."
Starguy · 26-30, M
@Renaci that's pretty reasonable not gonna lie. Do you think the east eventually will come for the west if we do nothing about their invasions?
