considering people have drowned in their basements in Brooklyn in recent hurricanes I'm not sure how wise the sunken area beneath the face is though

That’s the entrance and access to the garage/parking so I don’t think anyone is going to be in danger of drowning in there.
I think you should not concern yourself with improbable deaths and make sure that you’re living your best life. We all die somehow and in some way but not everyone truly lives and I think that’s the biggest tragedy of all. Life is supposed to be explored experienced (and it’s optional but not in my opinion) life should be exciting!!! ☺😊
