Why is their always this mix up about gravity and what is so great about knowing about it?

Scientifically gravity only pulls. As suction implies that there is a power we can avoid from being held down. Pulling however suggests that gravity has a strong hold possibly enveloping us and holding us to the earth so that we dont drift off into space and suffocate from lack of oxygen. My question however has always been this. If Sir Isaac Newton hadn't discovered gravity and what it meant and how crucial it was to our life. Would we be any more affected by not know as we are today by actually knowing. Same with a lot of things like oxygen. If it hadn't been discovered would we be bothered because i certainly wouldnt be. Some things discovered just dont matter as we don't constantly talk about or have issues or lack of oxygen and gravity however there is always someone who is struggling with how much electricity they have. Others like electricity are important.

There is no gravity, the earth sucks!

The earth itself can not possibly suck as the earth spins. @onestarrynight:
Cintrifical forces forbid it. @Abandoned95:
