Yes it is possible. When you see the stars at night,it's what the star looks like years ago. Since it took light years for the light to reach earth.

@WildRover: The star may have exploded and is not there. But the light from it is still making its way to earth. So you could be looking in the past as the star exploded years ago,but you can still see it in the sky because it took longer for the light to reach here.
