Issues with my iPhone 5C - help?

Okay, so let me start with off with the proclamation that I am a butter fingers on the best of days and I fumbled my iPhone 5c into a tub full of water. Now, I have to admit, I think my reaction time was impressive. The phone went in speaker first and was completely submerged for like, half a second before I grabbed it and threw it out of the water. After that, I towel dried it and looked online what to do. So, I filled a bowl full of rice, submerged my phone in there and let it sit while I was at school. I needed it when I got home because I was doing volunteer work later and needed to be able to call my mom to pick me up. I hadn't noticed anything wrong with the phone, all apps worked, ect. When I went to the volume, the "Speaker" option had disappeared. So, essentially, my phone says that the phone is always connected to headphones and will not play any sound from just itself. This extends to calling. When I do not select the Speaker option during a call, my phone produces no noise. I can't hear ringing, nothing. But when I do select the Speaker option, I can hear everything. I checked my alarms - for some reason, text tones and other notifications will only give me a vibration while bedtime alarms and ringtones will give me full sound. The phone work so 100% fine when headphones are actually plugged in.

So, is this a result of water damage? Is it something I can fix?

I tentatively brought up the idea of getting a new phone to my mom and she was like "No". If I tell my parents that my phone is busted, my life is forfeit. I have had this phone for a couple years with really no damage, but still. >.>

I've already tried what the Internet suggested - attempting to inhale the water out of the speaker and using the rice method. In no way am I experienced enough to crack open the case and fix it with tech and fancy tools. Any other ideas as to how I can fix this issue?
