Should children be genetically engineered?

This book I got the other day is fascinating, but it's giving me the heebes jeebus. What's your opinion on the matter? Is it ethical? Will all humans be genetically engineered in the future? What are the potential risks and rewards?

There are circumstances under which it might actually benefit humankind, if it could remove or neutralize the genes for inherited diseases. But unfortunately people’s vanity and money would mean more superficial uses.
