I think the whole Apple v Facebook thing is the first crack in the "mainstream" internet.
It'll end up like cable TV. Every country has a different spin on it and I think the governments will put their dirty little hands in it and mess it up.

It'll be pre-meditated bullshit, more so than now. There'll be some bastions of light and hope and unicorns but it's gonna go downhill fast as more and more companies, lobbies and governments realize what a powerful tool it is and how they can control it.

It is unikely to be growing demand because the IT and telecommunications people will keep adding to the system.

More likely perhaps is control on use as it is dawning on so many that the Internet is extremely profligate, needing vast server installations together consuming enormous quantities of electricity.

A large EMP burst.

war.. because i don't think servers will crash and overload anymore.. servers will have to literally be broken to malfunction.. or be hacked .. or under total government control.. or an astroid hitting the servers or power sources
