Could I mod a social media app to change its appearance on my phone?

I've had this idea in my mind for months now, and I'd really like to mod an app that changes how things are displayed (profile pictures, display names, fonts, colors, etc). I don't know where to begin or if someone has already this before. Could someone share any advice/tips?
