Is there a formula concerning the relation between two substances' density and their temperature?

Like colder fat and hotter water? Fat would be on top, but cold stuff would be on the bottom?

Kind of, but it's more like the volume an object occupies, that determines whether it floats above another object. So. a caisson made of pure cement, will float on top of water, if it's large enough.

If you're talking about liquids, then density determine what floats on top.
