In base 20, we would need to learn how to write 20 different digits. And third graders would be sitting at their desks counting on their toes!
On the other hand, it would be cool to say things like "four score and seven" instead of 87.
Base twenty would have more terminating decimals. But we could do even better with base 60, and then our number system would match how we measure angles in degrees and how we measure time with a 12 hour clock.
