The Android operating system, is open source, which means anyone can look at the source code, and try to figure out weaknesses.

The counter to this argument, is that the more people look at the source code, the more suggestions you're going to have on how to make it more secure.

Apple does not share its source code, so on the surface, you would think it would be safer, but it turns out that all you need, is access to the APIs (Application Program Interface), to write malicious code, and because you don't have as many eyes on the source code, not as many people will scrutinize it for security flaws.

So, in my opinion, when you take everything into consideration, it's about equal.

@Northwest Thank you. Are there any phones that are much more secure? I've heard of them but they are, apparently, very expensive.
