It was done by Presidential executive orders and looks like it was not thought through. They figured out today that they need at least 90 days to implement Trump's order, and maybe more.
Trump thinks he can get some sort of political edge, over China.
If we're truly concerned that Huawei is embedding some sort of spy code, into their phone, or telecom infrastructure, then that's the least of our worries. Every single laptop, desktop, or notepad computer we use, has its entire motherboard made in China, Taiwan or S. Korea. This includes the Pentagon, NSA, White House, etc.

@Swede Good point. I have a huawei phone and it is the best phone I've had. I don't care if it is spying. What are they going to do with the info anyway. Come after me for eating? Lol
Like people say this is just the trade war that from what I have heard is hurting most people on both sides. Except for a few niche places. Also like people have said everything is made in China. This just gives them an excuse to create proprietary alternatives instead of using ours. That makes them more independent from us not less. Look at our relationships with open countries. We have to play nice with them because we are dependent on them. This is a stupid move. Especially since Google should know better than this.
