Just the solution to overpopulation and resource depletion.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@MethDozer overpopulation is a Malthusian myth. We can support way more people and resources can be better allocated. We waste a large amount of our resources. New technology such as aeroponics can easily feed a larger population.
MethDozer · M
@basilfawlty89 Aeroponics isn't new....

The food problem right now is simple logistics of moving it, not producing it. I get that. But there is more than just food to worry about. Water, energy, space. Just take water, many places around the world don't have enough drinking water to support a population, what do you do with those people in those places?

IDK, the utopia future were we all have perfect science mad food, in our artificial science made bodies, living in our little minimalist cubicles made into vertical cities, and plugging our neo cortex into a BS virtual reality after we genetically engineered ourselves out of all negative feelings doesn't impress me, sounds vial, and something I will always spit on.

We already live like cockroaches and ants in cities as it is.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@MethDozer it's not engineering ourselves into some AI though, it's literally just repairing damage that occurs over time. This has nothing to do with mind uploading or anything like that.
MethDozer · M
@basilfawlty89 Oh no I know it isn't . I was going into the idea overpopulation is a myth. I get we can all pack together like rats and cockroaches and the number survive, yet fuck that soulless living hell.

IDK, I guess I get into too many discussions about this crap with my peeps who dick ride on David Pearce and Nick Bostrom types. I am projecting possibly.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@MethDozer well, it's projected right now, we could all fit into a city spaced like NYC and the whole of humanity would fit into a city the size of Texas. So we're not white there yet that overpopulation is a huge problem yet.
MethDozer · M
@basilfawlty89 It isn't about space, it is about energy, food production, and water.

That is exactly what I mean. All of us in a space the size of NYC or all of us in Texas? FUCK THAT. That isn't living, that is being forced to live. I don't hate my future generations enough to want them living in that kind of hell. People deserve and need space. So do the other creatures.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@MethDozer yeah, but I was just giving a present example, not saying we all will live in a city the size of Texas. My point is we're still a long way from running out of space and stuff like vertical farming, city farms, lab grown meat, etc can take care of our needs. Plus I reckon we will in the next century start working on terraforming and perhaps permanent space dwellings
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@MethDozer this is of course assuming climate change isn't going to fuck us up.
MethDozer · M
@basilfawlty89 Lab grown meat. No thank you

Vertical communities? No thank you.

More urbanization? No thank you. ( cities are rumors and urbanization a cancer)

I don't see these Human+ ideals as anything but living, soulless, hells. Be better to just not over populate to the point those telescopes are necessary.

Space dwellings? Those are cool. I would still rather be hear but space colonies is actually rational.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@MethDozer well vertical farming, not necessarily communities. And I doubt everyone will move to a big city same as now. I guess it also depends on perspective. I hate rural and small town areas, so for me living in a city is fine. Similarly, people can opt out if life extension if they don't desire it.
MethDozer · M
@basilfawlty89 Cities are filth IMHO. People forced to live on top of each other like rodents and insects in a place that can't truthfully sustain itself, devoid of nature, and spewing its sewage and trash to the untainted areas. They also tend to breed and nurture the worst human qualities.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@MethDozer see matter of perspective there. Me , I like cities. I like being centrally located to everything and being around people. For me rural is a nightmare.
MethDozer · M
@basilfawlty89 Clean air, clean water, space, and resources to sustain oneself? The ability do what you want and be left alone? To live naturally?
😉 I an ribbing you now.

, I know not everyone likes the simple life. Did you happen to grow up in the sticks? I grew up in the city and saw too much of it. I like being around people, just not thousands and thousands of nameless strangers who don't give a shit about me nor me them. Too many people to form a real community relationship with. People don't relate to that large a group and I seen how the urban city environment isolates people more. It encourages neighbors who don't know each other and don't have any reason to work together. Smaller groups are stronger and cohesive. IDK, cities are nothing but selfishness, consumerism, and fleeting hedonism
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@MethDozer I grew up in the sticks yeah, sugar cane land lol. I hate rural living. I feel alive in the city.
MethDozer · M
@basilfawlty89 Makes sense. Vastly different landscapes we come from too. The sugar cane land description doesn't give me any warm fuzzies. Sounds like our Midwest but that is corn as far as the eye can see. Nebraska style rural would drive me insane.

The worst of you ask me? The suburbs. North American suburbs anway. Man are they crushing.
