That would be nice... They just don't live long enough 馃槬

@Quizzical wholly agree. That part pains me a lot.
There's also benefits to human life extension if this works.
DeWayfarer61-69, M
@basilfawlty89 Not likely. There is much talk of banning human DNA editing all together.
basilfawlty8931-35, M
@DeWayfarer I doubt that would happen. Gene therapy can solve too many issues for an outright ban.
DeWayfarer61-69, M
@basilfawlty89 Just do a search on "dna banning" and count the articles.
basilfawlty8931-35, M
@DeWayfarer I'm still skeptical there will be an outright ban. Plus a lot of these technologies are stuff like senolytics and telomerase, which aren't really Gene editing, but enzymes that are injected.

@DeWayfarer There is and will be a lot of resistance to something like this, to many it might seem almost unethical.
I am of the mindset that these things should be explored, and it is simply the next step of evolution, man altered evolution that is. That being said, the potential adverse effects are huge.
DeWayfarer61-69, M
@Axelerator Personally, I am not sure one way or the other. Yet there is a lot of room for abuse, and I am uncertain if we as a world are ready for this type of advancement.

The balance in advancement as I see it seemingly do not out weight the possibilities for abuse. And the possibilities for abuse are of the horrendous type.

Sadly I see no way to stop it, and that also presents another problem. We have to keep up with the times or else those that would abuse it will surpass us.

Just not happy with the whole situation. :(
basilfawlty8931-35, M
@DeWayfarer I personally think we have a duty to encourage this. The point if medicine is to save lives and increase health. This is no different than life saving surgery or antibiotics that save our lives and return us to health. Saving a life is always a worthwhile pursuit.
DeWayfarer61-69, M
@basilfawlty89 I can see the difference between an antibiotic and a potential medicinal nuclear bomb. Truly sorry that you can not because the fate of all humanity rests in everyone's hands.
basilfawlty8931-35, M
@DeWayfarer the nuclear bomb of...not having frailty and more time with our loved ones? Where do I sign up for this bomb?
DeWayfarer61-69, M
@basilfawlty89 North Korea would be an excellent place to sign up. ;(
basilfawlty8931-35, M
@DeWayfarer I think their MO is making people live shorter lives with labour camps. I don't see the relation. This research is in the US incidentally.
DeWayfarer61-69, M
@basilfawlty89 They are trying. And there are currently no such agencies to stop them. If they can steal technologies to make real nuclear bombs this would be no different and possibly easier. ;(
basilfawlty8931-35, M
@DeWayfarer so Koreans would live longer. How's that bad?
DeWayfarer61-69, M
@basilfawlty89 And create other kinds of mass extinction? Quite a combination there. What can be use for good always can be use for bad. Question is are we as a world "dominating" race ready to deal with the consequences? I'm not certain that we are. ;(
basilfawlty8931-35, M
@DeWayfarer how will that lead to mass extinction? That has nothing to do with our lifespan, but to do with greed and irresponsible behaviour by corporations and governments. We can regreen the planet easily with modern technology.
