Anyone use a VHS/VCR to Digital/DVD converter hardware and software?

Thinking of buying one, but there are quite a few out there with ratings all over the place from extremely positive to very negative. If you have done it, what did you use? Thanks!

I use a Panasonic DMR-EZ28. It gives me a DVD or a card option.
